PICTURE OF MYATT AND HOOKS FAMILY

This picture was taken about 1890. It shows Eldridge Newton Myatt, his wife Parthany, and the family of their daughter Rebecca, who married Asbury Hooks. Eldridge had been born in Tennessee in 1816 and Parthany was born in North Carolina in 1815. They were married in Dickson County, Tennessee in 1837. He filed a claim for a land grant in Columbia County, Arkansas in 1852. Eldridge Myatt and his family moved to White County, Arkansas and settled in Marshall Township where they are listed in the 1880 census. Eldridge died in 1895 and Parthany died in 1893.

In the picture the older couple on the left are Eldridge Myatt and his wife Parthany. In the center is Asbury Hooks, with the long black beard, and his wife Rebecca Myatt who is wearing the checked dress. Of the Hook’s nine children, seven were alive in 1890. Thomas had died in 1888 and A.H. died in 1889. The person standing behind Asbury is Cora Hooks, who would have been 16 years old. To the left of her I believe is her brother, William Hooks, who would be 21 years old. William died in 1895.

On the far right would be the Hooks oldest daughter, Martha (Mattie) who would be 23 years old and had married James Buck Pruitt in 1885, although he’s not in the picture. Martha had 2 children who were born before 1890. The oldest, Louis, would be 3 years old and might be the child standing in front of her. Next would be Artie, born in 1889, who might be the baby sitting on Rebecca’s lap.

The other boys are thought to be C. Vernon, age 9, standing next to Eldridge; Edmond, age 14, standing next to William; James, age 12, standing behind Rebecca; and Kenny Lester, age 4, standing next to Parthany.
